U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said last week, "You want to look better? You want to feel better? To do that, lower your caloric intake, lower the fats and carbs, eat more whole grains. And you exercise -- and that's as simple as it can be." As a physician who has worked with hundreds of patients who struggle with their weight, I believe that it's not as "simple" as Thompson makes it sound. If it were, then more than 60 percent of Americans would not be overweight or obese.

I would like to add on to what Secretary Thompson said about weight loss. It takes a lot of determination to lose weight. I accept that there are many weight loss aids like Diet Pills such as Phentermine, diet plans such as South Beach diet and fitness plans which help in losing weight. Successful weight loss depends on many other factors as well. Diet pills, or Diet Plans may help you shed your extra kilos but they cannot address the emotional, psychological and interpersonal aspects of obesity. It is up to the individual concerned to resolve the psychological, emotional and life style factors which contribute to over eating or obesity. It takes time to develop the sort of eating and exercise habits that will help you to lose weight and stay in shape not just for a few months but for ever.
